A nursery in Wallingford has been rated ‘good’ by Ofsted just months after it was labelled as ‘inadequate’.
Duchess Nursery in St Georges Road was complimented for its ‘encouragement and praise’ of children and ‘varied curriculum’ following an inspection by the government department on May 31.
It represents a stark turnaround from the previous inspection on January 26, which reported babies lying in vomit and crawling on mopped floors that were still wet.

But, when inspectors returned to the nursery last month, they were impressed with the teaching and care.
The report said children ‘receive lots of encouragement and praise for their achievements’, ‘are motivated to learn’ and that ‘babies’ exploratory skills are supported by staff, who provide them with inviting sensory experiences’.
Inspectors further noted that ‘staff plan a varied curriculum to ensure children are well prepared for their future education’ and that ‘parents are delighted with the care and support the staff provide.’
Manager Amy Lee said: “We are utterly delighted that the hard work of the whole nursery team has been so clearly recognised in Ofsted’s recent visit.
“Our nursery continues to go from strength to strength, with a consistent high quality of provision and a new garden and we are looking forward to a bright future.”
Duchess Nursery in Steventon was also rated inadequate at the start of the year, with an inspection on February 2, and is yet to receive a new rating.
