Great Western Railway staff and passengers were thrilled to see rock and roll royalty on board.
Foo Fighters travelled by GWR train to Glastonbury on Friday ahead of their secret set at the music festival.
The legendary band had been added to the lineup under the fake name of The Churnups and then, after dropping a few hints online, surprised the crowds by taking to the stage in the timeslot before the Arctic Monkeys' headline performance.
On the way there, frontman Dave Grohl posed for a pic with a member of the train operator's service development team, with guitarist Pat Smear and bass player Nate Mendel in the background.
GWR posted the photo on social media after the secret was revealed.
A spokesman said: "Even rock royalty knows that there is no better way to travel to Glastonbury than by train!
"You never know who is going to churn up on board our trains!"
The Glastonbury appearance marked the Foo's first full gig in the UK since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, though they had previously held a tribute concert to Taylor in London last year, and the first that included songs from their latest album But Here We Are.
