Marcham councillors have reacted to the tragic news that three teenagers were killed in a crash with a tree.

Yesterday morning, the police confirmed that three Oxfordshire teenagers died in a crash on the A415 in Marcham when a silver BMW left the road and collided with a tree.

Two men, aged 18, and one man, aged 17, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of the victims have been named as Daniel Hancock, 18, and Elliot Pullen, 17.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

Marcham councillors have told the Oxford Mail their thoughts go out to the victims of the tragic accident, and they hope a proper investigation will take place.

Marcham parish councillor Mark Harvie said: “The thoughts of the council go out to the families for the tragic loss.

“We hope the families can start to come to terms and obviously we need to wait for the investigation to find out what caused this tragic event.”

Mr Harvie said he was pleased the community was already helping the families and he hoped this would continue in these “very tragic times”.

Richard Webber, county councillor for Sutton Courtenay and Marcham, said the crash was “absolutely awful” and he called for councillors to await the results of the investigation.

He said: “We are waiting the full details of how it could have possibly happened.

“I’m sure there will be a proper investigation and I will make sure of it.”

Robert Clegg, district councillor for Marcham, said: “I share the shock and distress that residents of Marcham and beyond have expressed about this tragic incident, and my thoughts are with the families and friends of these young men.

"Loss of life is always heart-breaking, but especially so at such a young age.”

Marcham parish councillor Chitvan Amin said the crash was a shock given that the village was “very peaceful and a great place to live”.

She said: “It is a very sad tragedy which has happened in our village.

“The road is a major road for traffic and is normally very busy.

“I strongly support an investigation into this stretch of road.”

Yesterday, during the day, tributes were being left at the scene before the road was closed by police in the evening.

Thames Valley Police has appealed to anyone who witnessed this incident or may have dash cam footage prior to the collision to get in touch.

The families of the teenagers have been notified and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Sergeant Matt Cadmore of the Joint Roads Policing Unit at Three Mile Cross said: “This is an extremely tragic incident which has resulted in the death of three young men.

"Our thoughts remain with their families and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 or make a report online to Thames Valley Police quoting the incident number 43230270542.
