Police have warned motorists to check vehicles before purchase after a ‘poor innocent member of the public’ was caught driving a stolen car.
The vehicle, which was stolen in a Merseyside burglary, was stopped and recovered almost 150 miles away by Roads Policing Unit Oxfordshire.
The force carried out a ‘skilful stop’ and ‘boxed in’ the vehicle, which had its identity altered, on the A43 yesterday evening (June 16).

Police returned the car to its rightful owner or insurance company.
The force said: “This is a strong reminder to always check vehicles fully before buying.
“This can be done by running the chassis number through paid websites which will show if the vehicle is stolen and/or on the right plates.”
