I read with interest the front-page article about Jenny Wheeler taking on the challenge of cancer victims' right to have Sunitinib, Postcode Lottery NHS (Oxford Mail, June 12).
Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust committed a crime not having allowed Mrs Wheeler's husband Jim the right to this drug.
This drug, no matter what the cost, should, if necessary, be available to everyone, no matter what sex, age or nationality and not based on where they live. This is awful.
Every county's doctors should have the money made available from the Government.
Less money should be spent elsewhere, like hundreds of people in prison having an apparent 'life of Riley', issuing fewer traffic tickets and spending less on floral displays in towns and villages and on roundabouts.
It is utterly deplorable that these powers-that-be can play God - to my mind, this is exactly what they are doing.
I lost my dear father to cancer in February. His cancer was too aggressive for any treatment and we had only a couple of weeks with him. If the circumstances had been the same as Mr Wheeler, I would have been so very sad and also angry.
I wish Mrs Wheeler the best of luck with her challenge to get cancer victims the right to Sunitinib and I applaud what she is doing.
