An Oxfordshire village could receive up to 80 new homes under new plans submitted to Vale of White Horse District Council.

Gladman Developments is seeking outline planning permission to build the houses in Steventon - a village south of Abingdon and west of Didcot.

The homes would be built to the north-west of the village on a nearly nine-hectare plot of land that runs alongside the main Abingdon Road.

A consultation process started in 2021 with leaflets sent to local businesses and residents.

Concerns were raised that the new development would heap pressure on strained NHS services and St Michaels Primary School in the village.

The developers said they were willing to speak with the relevant bodies to see what healthcare and education provision was in place.

There were also fears the development would overwhelm the village shop.

But the developers said the homes would increase business at the shop and lead to an expansion of services and facilities in village.

They also claim that 35 per cent of the homes would be affordable.

The homes are planned to be two-story and would use traditional building materials to blend in with the existing character of the village.

Towards the north of the site, near the main access road, land has been designated to use as a residential care home

There would also be an area of public open space and a children's play area.
