Agatha Christie super-fans Right Said Fred paid tribute to the murder-mystery writer when they visited her designated room at Wallingford Museum.

Brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass formed the English pop band in 1989 and are best known for the hit 1991 song ‘I'm Too Sexy’.

The duo were given a guided tour of the Agatha Christie room by curator Judy Dewey on Wednesday, May 24.

Afterwards, Richard, 69, heaped praise on the writer, who lived in the town for 42 years from 1934 to 1976.

He said: “It doesn’t need saying that Agatha Christie was a genius, that much is clear not only from the content and invention of her stories but also from their longevity.

“Hercule Poirot was my introduction to Agatha Christie. I became mesmerised by the simplicity of the story lines together with the character of Poirot played by David Suchet.

“Her creative apogee was Murder on the Orient Express, a dark and claustrophobic tale of pent-up anger, revenge and long incubated pain.

“She was a British genius. Her statue in Wallingford is a fitting tribute to her contribution to British cultural life”.

Their visit precedes the planned unveiling of a new Agatha Christie statue on Saturday, September 9, commissioned by Wallingford Town Council and funded by an Arts Grant

Designed by professional sculptor Ben Twiston-Davies, the statue will sit on a bench against the backdrop of Wallingford Museum overlooking the Kinecroft.

Right Said Fred will provide the soundtrack free of charge for the next promotional film of the statue before its unveiling.
