A driver who allegedly used a signal jammer to prevent people from locking their cars and to steal their property has been caught.

Bicester’s road policing officers were alerted to an automatic number plate recognition hit near to J8A services in Oxford yesterday.

The vehicle picked up by the cameras was allegedly involved in theft from vehicles and using a signal jammer to prevent people locking their cars, before then stealing their property.

A person has since been in custody for going equipped to steal, drug driving and for possession of cannabis.

Police sent an unmarked vehicle into the services car park to search for the vehicle while marked cars congregated at the exit in case the driver attempted to break away.

The vehicle was blocked in its parking space and after the driver was detained the search found the signal jammer.

Initially, police were not sure the jammer was turned on but they were certain it was in operation after interference with their radios and motorists were seen having difficult opening and locking their cars.
