The image received as a threat to a Woodstock school is from a bomb scare in Hong Kong over three years ago.

According to the Hong Kong Free Press, the image relates to two homemade bombs found at a secondary school, Wah Yan College in December 2019.

The South China Morning Post said the bomb disposal officers defused the devices, which contained 10kg of explosives and said the bombs had been put together correctly and were ready to use.

The Oxford Mail received claims of a homemade bomb this morning (Wednesday). 

An individual told us he was "going to bomb The Marlborough School in Woodstock". 

This was reported to Thames Valley Police by the Oxford Mail and The Marlborough School and an investigation began early on Wednesday. 

Thames Valley Police confirmed the investigations have found there is "no credible threat". 

It has since been uncovered that the image sent to our journalists of the "explosive device" is also one that can be sourced on Google. 

Our team has investigated the image and it is a stock picture readily available online.

The Marlborough School, which is on Shipton Road in Woodstock, is a coeducational Church of England secondary school. 

The school continued to operate as normal on Wednesday. It is understood exams are ongoing for certain year groups at the schools.

A joint statement by the police and school said: “Thames Valley Police and the Marlborough School in Woodstock are aware of a number of malicious messages being posted to public social media groups.

"We take the communications extremely seriously, but must stress our investigations suggest that there is no credible threat.

“We would ask everyone to go about their normal daily lives and to remain vigilant.

"Marlborough School is open as normal and we would ask that anyone receiving messages of this nature to contact us on 101 or using our online form.

"Neighbourhood officers will be around the area to provide reassurance and speak with parents and students if necessary.”
