The inspection was carried out by the Food Standards Agency.
The rating suggests that major improvement is necessary in food hygiene at the pub.
It means that of Cherwell's 195 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 152 (78 per cent) have ratings of five and just one has a zero rating.
This newspaper has contacted the Red Lion Inn asking if staff agree with the inspection rating and to find out what is being done to improve this.
