A man has been sentenced for assaulting a police officer in Witney’s Market Square.
Kevin Crierie, 48, from Thorney Leys in Witney, was sentenced at Oxford Magistrates’ Court yesterday for assaulting an emergency worker.
Mr Crierie pleaded guilty at the same hearing to one count of assault of an emergency worker.
On April 30, Mr Crierie assaulted a police officer in Market Square.
He was arrested at the scene and charged with the offence later the same day.
Mr Crierie has been ordered to pay a £1,200 fine and other costs totalling £665.
Investigating officer PC Sarah Finch said: “As a force, we do not tolerate any assault of our officers or assaults on other emergency service workers.
“Police officers and staff should be able to come to work without fear that they will be assaulted or injured.
“We will always fully investigate incidents and work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to bring offenders before the courts.”
