Firefighters rushed to a house near Banbury after they were called to put out a roof fire.
Fire crews from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to Mollington, near Banbury, yesterday after they received a report of a roof fire.
The fire had taken hold of the roof space of a single storey extension and was in danger of spreading to the rest of the house.
Crews from Banbury Fire station, Deddington Fire Station and Rewley Road Fire Station were quickly mobilised, with the first crew arriving on the scene within minutes.
Using high pressure hose reels, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were successful in bringing the blaze under control and prevented the fire spreading any further.
Incident commander Jon Walker said: ‘We had to act fast, and the rapid intervention by the crew meant we prevented the fire spreading to the two storey section of the property.
He added: “We cannot stress enough the importance of having working smoke alarms in your property, please make sure you take the time to test yours’.
The fire investigation was slowed by live solar panels on the roof and fortunately an electrical professional made them safe and enabled the investigation to be completed.
Nobody was hurt during the fire and the cause of the roof fire is believed to be an electrical fault in the roof space of the extension.
