The county council’s headquarters could soon be moving from New County Hall to a greener and more carbon-neutral location.
Later this year, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet will consider moving their headquarters from New County Hall to Speedwell House campus on Speedwell Street.
The proposal has been considered by the cross-party cabinet advisory group on city centre accommodation and it has been proposed that the headquarters move to a reimagined Speedwell House campus in two to three years time.

The council’s vision is for the Speedwell Street offices to become an exemplar for carbon neutral green offices.
Leader of Oxfordshire County Council Liz Leffman said they were “still finalising a lot of detail and these plans will evolve and develop over the next two to three years before we make this move”.
Ms Leffman said the cabinet would make a final decision in due course but she wanted people to understand the direction which the council was heading in.
Expanding on why the move was a good idea, Ms Leffman said it provided “value for money for the taxpayer” and it kept to the council’s principle of “putting climate change at the heart of everything we do”.
She added: “This is in line with our overall property strategy and the best way to utilise our offices overall, rationalising where necessary”.
The council hope that the sale or lease of New County Hall will potentially generate significant income which could then be re-invested in Speedwell House, which is already owned by the county council.
