The Miss Oxford competition attracted lots of contestants in 1982 and Berry’s was a popular bakers.

Four decades ago there were lots of parking spaces in Broad Street, unlike today.

But last year the pedestrianisation of the street was completed, costing half a million pounds.

Parking spaces were removed by the county council and planters were positioned throughout the street.

The county council said it wanted to deliver new access to green space throughout Oxfordshire’s urban areas, to promote wellbeing, and a greener cityscape while encouraging less reliance on cars for local trips.

The investment was part of the council's four-year financial strategy.
