A water leak in a village near Didcot has closed a road and disrupted bus services for at least the rest of the day.

Thames Water responded to reports of a water leak in Chilton earlier today and closed Church Hill while they repaired the issue.

The water company, which apologised for any disruption caused by the repairs, fixed the leak and expect to re-open the road by the end of today.

While the road is closed, Oxford Bus Company has diverted its City34 service as well as Thames Travel 94, BB5 and X32 to avoid the road.

The bus service has instead asked customers to use the stop near Chilton Garden Centre in both directions. It said there is a risk the disruption could last until Friday, May 5.

A Thames Water spokeswoman said: "We responded to reports of water leak on Church Hill in Chilton earlier today on Wednesday, May 3.

"Our teams have now completed the repair and expect to re-open the road by the end of the day. We apologise to residents and motorists for any disruption this may have caused.

"Finding and fixing leaks is a top priority, with over 1,300 repairs made each week – that’s one leak every 7.5 minutes."

A spokesperson for Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel said: “Following a water leak in Chilton village we have adjusted our routes slightly meaning our Oxford Bus Company City34 and Thames Travel 94, BB5 and X32 services will divert by staying on the main road.

"During this short period passengers will be required to use the garden centre stop in both directions. Thames Water is hopeful that Church Road could re-open today, but there is a risk it could closed be up to Friday.

"We thank our passengers for their patience and understanding.”
