A man will be sentenced next year for his involvement in a High Street brawl.
Prosecutors say Jack Barnes, 20, was part of the group disorder in Oxford’s High Street last April, when he brandished a ‘wooden handle’.
Appearing before Oxford Crown Court on Friday (April 28), Barnes, of Chilton, near Didcot, pleaded guilty to affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
Defending, Christopher Pembridge asked the judge to adjourn sentencing so the probation service could compile a report recommending programmes Barnes could do in the community.
The barrister said: “It is obviously a very unpleasant incident, but that said, Mr Barnes is only 20, he’s not got any previous convictions – he has got a couple of youth cautions. He has pleaded guilty today, he has accepted his conduct amount to threats and use of violence.”
His client had been diagnosed with autism and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, he added.
Recorder Ann Mulligan, the judge dealing with the plea hearing on Friday afternoon, agreed to adjourn the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

She warned the defendant she was making ‘no promises’ about the type of sentence that would be imposed. “It’s a serious matter and custody will be considered.”
Barnes was granted bail to return to court on June 9 for the sentencing.
