Police have recorded 83 ‘crimes’ connected to the Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme, councillors were told.
The trial of the LTN scheme in East Oxford has seen reports of bollards being cut down, stolen and even torched.
Appearing before Oxfordshire County Council’s Place scrutiny committee this week, Chief Constable Jason Hogg told councillors that his officers had ‘recorded 83 crimes in relation to the bollards’.
A number of arrests had been made - although no figure was given.
“Like any other crime we will investigate it and take action where the evidence is there but, unfortunately, we haven’t got the resources to in effect monitor those on a regular basis,” the councillors were told.
He urged the councillors to work closely with the area’s policing commanders.

Mr Hogg said: “We haven’t got resources to stand in the road or walk down the road protecting those bollards, unfortunately.
“But when there are crimes committed and there is evidence - particularly CCTV or evidence of somebody taking the registration number of a vehicle we will actively investigate that.”
