A man has been sentenced after he intentionally strangled his former partner.

Darius Creer, aged 46 of Blackbird Leys Road, Oxford, was sentenced to two years’ and six months’ imprisonment following a hearing at Oxford Crown Court today (April 28).

His conviction follows a trial which concluded in March.

Creer was convicted of one count of intentional strangulation but was acquitted of one count of intentional suffocation.

On October 21 last year, Creer went to the address of a former partner in the early hours.

After seeing him on his hands and knees on the pavement, she let him into the address, concerned for his welfare.

But Creer quickly became volatile, and the victim called 999.

He then put his hands around the victim’s throat and applied pressure restricting her breathing.

The 999-call dropped out, but officers attended to find the victim in great distress and Creer had fled.

Creer was arrested on the same day as the attack and charged the following day.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Sian Lewis of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit, based in Oxford, said: “I am satisfied that Creer has been sentenced and hopefully his time in prison will make him think about the impact his violent actions had on his victim.
