5. Oxford University Museum of Natural History

Oxford University Museum of Natural History is home to the university’s scientific collections of geological and zoological specimens.

The museum itself is a Grade I listed building constructed in a neo-Gothic style.

Inside you see collections of Oxfordshire dinosaurs and the dodo, among other things.

One recent visitor commented: “We walked through old fashioned wooden doors and took a sudden intake of breath.

“This place is beautiful inside and out, in such a small space there is so much to see.

“There are many exhibits you can touch so great for kids and so many interesting exhibits to keep adults entertained too.”

4. University of Oxford

The University of Oxford dates back as far as 1096 and is the oldest English-speaking university in the world.

It is a collegiate university made up of 39 semi-autonomous colleges.

Oxford has a large number of notable alumni including 30 British prime ministers.

It is possible to visit the university colleges and other buildings.

3. Creation Theatre Company

The Creation Theatre Company puts on a number of exciting, immersive, fast-paced live theatre events in Oxford.

They perform in a variety of unusual locations such as book shops and car parks.

One commenter wrote: “This is the first time, I have seen a play in a bookshop!

"It was a really great experience: the actors, props, music and songs were all superb.

2. The Oxford Artisan Distillery

Located in the heart of Oxford, the Oxford Artisan Distillery welcomes visitors for a behind-the-scenes experience where you can discover what goes into the spirits and how they are made.

There is also a distillery shop which is open to members of the public free of charge.

“Sarah was a great distillery guide, giving us a thorough history of the distillery whilst making the tour fun and interesting.

1. Bodleian Library

The Bodleian Library is the top-rated attraction in Oxford according to TripAdvisor.

It was founded by Sir Thomas Bodley and officially opened in 1602.

The library is the largest academic library system in the UK and many famous scholars have studied the through the ages.
