Discount clothing chain TK Maxx is moving to the Westgate Centre in Oxford.

In 2019, the chain, which mainly sells cut-price designer clothes, opened a new store at the Clarendon Centre.

It was filling the space left by Spanish clothing brand Zara, which moved out of the shopping centre to the Westgate.

Now TK Maxx is also leaving the Clarendon Centre and large signs have gone up at the Westgate to alert shoppers that it will be opening in the former New Look unit.

Brendan Hattam, centre director at Westgate Oxford, said: "We can’t wait to add TK Maxx to our retailer line-up this year, and we will be sharing updates around the store opening in due course.”

New Look closed at the Westgate in June.

Last month the Clarendon Centre was boarded up as a major redevelopment of the 1980s shopping centre got under way.

Oxford Mail:

Nottingham-based architects and interior designers, Marchini Curran Associates, has been appointed to work alongside the Lothbury Property Trust, on transforming the arcade into a new 226,547 sq ft mixed-use scheme, with a research and development facility at the centre.

The development, in partnership with Oxford Science Enterprises, will provide world-class laboratory space and serviced incubator accommodation.

It will be "a stepping stone of support" for university spin-outs and business start ups.

Alongside the enterprise building, which comprises 50,279 sq. ft, the scheme will deliver in phases 153,406 sq. ft of student and office accommodation, alongside 22, 862 sq. ft of retail and leisure units.

A new public square with spill-out spaces for cafes and restaurants will link into historic Frewin Court.

Developers aim to complete the project by 2025.

TK Maxx also has an outlet at Templars shopping park in Cowley.

Oxford Mail:

Homesense, a home furnishings store, will be opening there tomorrow.

It will join the existing TK Maxx to form a new superstore.

And a total of 21 new jobs will be created in the area through the move.

Some of these jobs will be team leader positions.

The superstore will cover 12,834 sq ft and will welcome several deliveries each week.

The opening comes after TK Maxx and its subsidiary Homesense announced in February it would be closing stores across the country.

The new opening goes against the previous closure trend which was due to landlord leasing issues.

A Homesense spokesman said: “We’re delighted for Homesense to join TK Maxx in Oxford to create a beautiful new superstore.

“We are looking forward to welcoming shoppers through our doors to enjoy the incredible treasure hunt shopping experience, with irresistible prices."
