A woman will undertake a five day, 100km trek in aid of breast cancer after she was diagnosed last year.

Allison Hood will tackle the Hadrian's Wall Country trek in Northumberland from June 10 to 16 in support of CoppaFeel.

Last year, aged 42, she was diagnosed with self-detected primary breast cancer.

She underwent chemotherapy, two surgeries, radiotherapy and ongoing hormone therapy to 'get rid of the sucker'.

As of April 7 this year, she has completed radiotherapy and is 'done' with her main treatment.

Ms Hood, who is from Oxford, said: "I feel incredibly lucky to have discovered the lump early enough - and for the GP to have taken it seriously straight away - for me to receive curative treatment.

"If the disease had spread to other parts of my body by the time it was discovered and diagnosed, it would've been a very different situation."

Ms Hood has already raised more than £3,200 of her £4,000 target through a JustGiving page, which will go towards CoppaFeel's 'life-saving mission'.

She said: "What I really like about CoppaFeel is their drive to be inclusive with their campaigns - they know that showing lots of different types of bodies best demonstrates the key message that breast cancer can affect anyone and illustrates the importance of self-checking.

"They also do it with humour which feels really approachable."
