We asked our readers on Facebook to tell us which pub is the best in Oxford.

The shortlist
Trout Inn, Wolvercote
The Trout Inn is a riverside pub located on Godstow Road in Lower Wolvercote.
The pub dates back to the 17th century and has a side terrace that looks out onto the River Thames.
The Trout Inn is famous for featuring in several Inspector Morse episodes.
Due to its location near to the river and Port Meadow, the pub is popular among walkers.
It is also family and dog friendly.
Lamb and Flag
The Lamb and Flag is a popular pub on St Giles’ Street.
It is owned by St John’s College and historically profits from the pub funded scholarships for DPhil students.
The pub was forced to close in January 2021 due to adverse trading conditions in the pandemic.
But community interest group the Inklings stepped in to take over the running of the pub and it reopened in October last year.
The Lamb and Flag is one of Oxford’s oldest pubs.
Turf Tavern
The Turf Tavern is located in the heart of academic Oxford, between New College and Hertford College.
It is close to famous landmarks such as the Bodleian Library and the Sheldonian Theatre.
The pub is family and dog friendly and has a beer garden.
Due to its location, the Turf Tavern is particularly popular among students.
The pub has served ales to politicians, presidents and movie stars since 1381.
The Victoria, Jericho
Found on 90 Walton Street, The Victoria is a bustling pub in the heart of Jericho.
It has a beer garden that is popular in summer months.
The Victoria serves a selection of ice cold beers and tasty hot pies.

Rose & Crown
The Rose & Crown received the most mentions from our readers on Facebook.
The pub describes itself as a ‘traditional university watering hole.’
It is located at 14 North Parade Avenue in the heart of central North Oxford.
The story of the pub began in 1863.
The land upon which it stands, between St. Giles church and the village of Summertown, was farmland owned by St. John’s College.
Speculators combined to buy up land and build houses there.
