After the announcement in 2017, they performed a farewell tour which was later released as a live album.
Stornoway is made up of frontman Brian Briggs, Jon Ouin who plays the keyboard and bassist Oli Steadman.
Drummer Rob Steadman was once part of the band, but is now based in the United States.
Mike Monaghan has replaced Mr Steadman on the drums.
Stornoway released three albums between 2010 and 2015, Beachcomber's Windowsill, Tales from Terra Firma and Bonxie.
Thanks @chris_hawkins for the first ever play of our new song #TroubleWithTheGreen! It’s finally taking its baby steps into the world. Listen again via @BBCSounds. The song addresses #adhd through the metaphor of brightly coloured painting. More news at 10am! pic.twitter.com/qyotLJoyt1

Mr Briggs said the come back is due to him becoming hooked again after writing a new collection of songs.
He met the other members of the band while studying ornithology at Oxford University and many of their songs centred around the theme of wildlife.
Mr Briggs worked at a wetland centre after the band split in 2016.
