Hospitals in Oxford and Banbury are providing high-quality services, according to the latest Healthcare Commission survey.
The Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes the John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals in Oxford, and the Horton in Banbury, met 41 of its 43 core standards for 2007/08. The trust did not meet standards on staff training and patient privacy early in the financial year, but is now complying.
Chief executive Trevor Campbell Davis said: "As well as treating more patients than ever before, our doctors, nurses, managerial and support staff have continued to uphold the high standard of care we deliver. This is reflected by the positive feedback we received in the patient survey also published by the Commission. With much still to look forward to this year, including the opening of the cancer centre, the trust continues to go from strength to strength."
A total of 103 NHS trusts across England failed to meet failed to meet one or more hygiene regulations and Anne Walker, chief executive of the Healthcare Commission, said trusts had 10 months to improve before a new regulator, the Care Quality Commission, which will focus on hygiene, comes into force.
The declaration looks at 43 different standards which NHS trusts are expected to meet, and covers issues including control of infection, how trusts recruit, train and support their staff, and take patients' views into account.
