The public have been invited to a picnic in the park at a local authority’s headquarters to celebrate the King’s Coronation.

Bicester Town Council’s headquarters, Garth Park, will be the site of a large picnic, activities and entertainment alongside the live showing of the coronation on Saturday, May 6.

A spokesperson for Bicester Town Council said: “Bring a picnic and join us to celebrate such a monumental event.

“Entry to the event is free and open to all. Savir Fare, the on-site cafe, will be open throughout the day.”

Garth Park also made the stage for the proclamation ceremony of King Charles III, which was attended by members of the council, staff, local dignitaries and members of the public.

So many guests turned up on the day that around 50 people could not fit into the town council headquarters, and instead stood outside listening to the proclamation being read on large speakers.

The accession proclamation was read by Mayor Alex Thrupp in the council chamber, among guests including Deputy Lieutenant Mr Robert Buckeldee, delegates from the Royal British Legion and Lieutenant Colonel Alex Atherton.

The coronation is the first in the council’s series of summer events, which include family fun day in association with Armed Forces Day, Bicester food festival, family sports day and a number of live music events.
