A man with Alzheimer's disease has gone missing from his home in Grandpont.

William Bird, 78, was last seen leaving his house at around 10.30am yesterday.

He is described as white, slim, around 5ft 10ins tall with grey hair and was wearing a dark blue Berghaus fleece jacket when he was last seen.

Sgt Graeme Cairns said: "We are extremely concerned for Mr Bird's welfare as he was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and may be in a confused state.

"I appeal to anyone who has seen a man of Mr Bird's description or knows of his whereabouts to contact police immediately."
