Thames Water has apologised after swathes of residents in West Oxfordshire were left no water over the weekend (April 1-2).

Residents in the OX18, OX28 and OX29 postcodes were affected after a large pipe burst in a field north of Carterton.

Thames Water engineers shut off the flow of water from the damaged section.

The water company announced at Saturday lunchtime (April 1) that repairs to the pipes were likely to carry on over the weekend.

But customers did see supplies return in some areas over the course of the afternoon.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: “We’re sorry if your day has been disrupted by low pressure.

“It’s been caused by a large burst pipe in a field near Burford Road, north of Carterton.

“Our engineers are working at the site and have brought water into the area from other parts of our supply network.

“Most of our customers in the area are back in supply but those in Minster Lovell in OX29 may be continuing to experience low water pressure.

“You can collect bottled water from our water station, which is now open at Sports Pavilion, Monahan Way, OX18 3AN. It's both drive in and walk in.

“The repair to the pipe is likely to carry on over the weekend in normal working hours but this shouldn’t affect local supplies.

“Thank you for your patience while we continue to work to get things back to normal.”
