Fellow cast members of the musical Annie shared their shock and sadness at the news that Paul O'Grady had died 'unexpectedly' aged 67.

The TV star and comedian was due to star in the musical at Oxford's New Theatre from April 17.

A message on Facebook from the Annie The Musical UK account said: "Everyone at Annie The Musical is stunned and saddened by the passing of Paul O’Grady.

"An incredible Miss Hannigan and an irreplaceable, hilarious and generous person who we will all miss immensely.

"Our thoughts are with Paul’s family and friends at this very sad time."

It said there will be further news from Annie The Musical in due course.

Mr O'Grady was was sharing the role of Miss Hannigan with Craig Revel Horwood as they toured around the UK in the musical.

Mr Revel Horwood, who was due to play Miss Hannigan for the Oxford shows, said he was in a "state of shock".

The Strictly judge wrote on Twitter today: "I’m in a state of shock this morning, waking up to the news that my gorgeous colleague and friend, Paul O’Grady has passed away.

"I’m actually reeling in disbelief. He was such a wonderful human being, funny and to the point. Paul, legend, RIP darling."

Mr O'Grady presented the popular comedy game show Blankety Blank in the late 90s under the guise of Lily Savage and hosted The Paul O'Grady Show, Blind Date and For The Love Of Dogs in a 30-year career.
