Police have dropped their investigation into a suspected abduction outside Larkrise Primary School in Boundary Brook Road, Oxford.
Officers now believe that the incident, which reportedly happened outside the school gates shortly before 9am on Thursday, was made up.
Det Sgt Russell Simpson said: "We take allegations of this nature very seriously and would like to reassure parents and residents that this was a false allegation and there is no need to be concerned.
"The children involved in making the allegation are being dealt with by the police."
It was reported that an 11-year-old girl was approached by a man she did not know who then grabbed her arm and threatened her.
