After filming the last ever episode of ITV's Endeavour, actors from the Inspector Morse drama have been getting involved in other projects.

While Shaun Evans, who has played a young Morse for the past decade, has started filming true crime drama Delia Balmer, alongside Line of Duty actress Anna Maxwell Martin, his co-star Roger Allam is to play a former media mogul.

He has taken on the role of Robert Maxwell, who once ran a publishing company in Oxford, lived at Headington Hall and was chairman of Oxford United.

Mr Allam, who once appeared in an episode of Inspector Morse, won't be away from TV screens for long.

He is set to appear in Apple TV+'s new Cold War–era thriller, Tetris.

The biographical film tells the true story of when Henk Rogers (played by Taron Egerton) discovered the video game Tetris in 1998. The film follows the Dutch video game designer as he "risks everything by travelling to the Soviet Union, where he joins forces with inventor Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to bring the game to the masses," according to the synopsis.

Mr Allam looks transformed in his new role, which required him to spend four hours in the makeup chair to get into character.

Oxford Mail:

The Murder in Provence star appeared on ITV's Lorraine last year to chat about the part, explaining how the prosthetics helped him in his portrayal of the disgraced media mogul who died in 1991.

He said at the time: "I'm very glad that the film wasn't about Robert Maxwell because I don't think I would have survived getting up at four in the morning to have all that put on every day.

"But having all that done, I found, really helped because they could use another technique of green screen, projecting stuff onto you.

"The thing with this is that I could look in the mirror and I looked completely different which really helped."

Oxford Mail:

Mr Allam said earlier that filming his final scenes with Shaun Evans who plays a young Inspector Morse were emotional.

He added: "Those final two scenes between Thursday and Endeavour were wonderful to act with Shaun. And terribly emotional as well. Because we have been having exchanges in pubs and outside of the car for all of these years.

“To realise that these were the last ones had a big impact on us as well and helped in the playing of it. Because it’s literally true that this is the parting of the ways for both the characters and the actors. Let’s say it helped access the emotions of the scene.

“Although Shaun and I have seen each other since and we will see each other again. It’s like this when you end the run of a play. You know you will never meet again to do this thing we have done over all of these years. It’s right, of course, but it’s very sad."
