A new report has revealed that Oxford has one of the lowest smoking-related death rates in the UK.
The report, created by health experts at Now Patient, has revealed the UK locations with the highest and lowest number of smokers and the locations with the most and least amount of smoking-related deaths.
Oxford ranks in 15th place, with 142 deaths per 100,000 residents.
The research also revealed that 8.3% of residents in Oxford are classified as smokers, which is the 3rd lowest in the UK.
Oxfordshire is set to become the first county in England to ban smoking outdoors by 2025.
The county aims to become a completely smoke-free zone with plans including encouraging employers to stop the habit of smokers gathering outside workplaces, and to see newly created pavement dining areas be 100 per cent smoke-free.
When announced, Oxfordshire's public health director, Ansaf Azhar described the strategy as a 'long game' to change smoking culture, with the aim of preventing deaths from diseases linked to tobacco.
Smoke-free is officially recognised by the Government as when five per cent of the population or less are smokers.
Recent figures have estimated that around 6.9 million people in the UK are currently smokers.
