There have been reports a woman was on top of the bridge on the eastern bypass on the outskirts of Oxford.
It was reported around noon on Thursday that Thames Valley Police was reassuring her on the Old Road Bridge.
The Oxford Mail was told the bypass was closed in both directions - but it has been cleared by 2.30pm.
A motorist said at the time: “I think I’m going to be here for hours.

“There is loads of police.”
Traffic was moving slowly near Risinghurst between Headington and Cowley.
The AA reported delays of seven minutes and increasing delays on the eastern bypass road northbound while the police were at the scene.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "Thames Valley Police was called to a fear for welfare on the Eastern Bypass at around 12.08pm this afternoon."
A road closure was put in place.
This has now been resolved safely and the road has now re-opened."
A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said it was a police-led incident.
