A motion was passed at a council meeting which concretises support for keeping an important level crossing open.

At a meeting of Cherwell District Council yesterday (Monday, February 27), councillor Chris Pruden and Gemma Coton put forward a motion to confirm the council’s support “for a suatainable, funded solution that continues to provide a suitable rail crossing for cars, cycles and pedestrians at or near London Road.”

The motion was brought forward now as East West Rail (EWR) is preparing to bid to ministers at the Department for Transport and Treasury for the permission and funding to proceed with plans to complete the line.

Mr Pruden said: “We have got four months to keep London Road open.

“Unless we all pull together, we risk being ignored as we have been too many times in the past.

“We need East West Rail and the government to fund and deliver a solution that keeps a usable route for car users, cyclists and pedestrians from south east Bicester to the town centre.”

He added: “It is good news that CDC supports the effort to find a real solution to London Road and to ensure the people of Bicester do not get cut off from town.

“We just need to work with EWR to find the right solutions that is best for Bicester.”
