Juliet Blackburn has written a letter to complain about parking fines being issued to diners in the evening in Oxford.
The cultural life of Oxford is suffering from the greediness of the local councils over evening parking.
Most of my friends who live outside Oxford now refuse to come into Oxford.
They have been bitten by large fines of£50+ levied for evening parking.

Once fined, nobody is going to come again. There is now plenty of space where nobody parks.
The single yellow line system used to work quite well. This affects both restaurants and the musical life of the city.
It is difficult to find out how much it will cost to park in a given location and it varies in a most illogical way.
There is some information on the internet but it isn’t up to date.

St Giles has now become less expensive than some streets to the north, but you can’t find out except by visiting.
Oxford City Council only publishes parking income for 2020 and it was over £3 million for central Oxford and nearly £2m for outer areas.
Maybe that should be updated as it will have increased. The county council produced a report on parking for 2021-2022. This shows that onstreet pay and display parking yielded an income of £ 2,385,873 in the city centre.
What they do with this money, and the relationship on parking with the city council, is a mystery to me.
