A man has been sentenced for having a mobile phone in prison at HMP Bullingdon.

Junaid Idrak, aged 27, of HMP Bullingdon, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a prohibited article in prison in a hearing at Oxford Magistrates Court on Friday (17/2).

He was sentenced to six additional months in custody at the same hearing.

On 14 September last year, prison officers conducted a search of Idrak’s cell and located a mobile phone.

Idrak identified that the phone was his.

Investigating officer, PC Andrew Gold, based at Banbury police station, said: “Mobile phones in prison can have a serious detrimental effect on the safe day to day running of prison establishments, putting both prisoners and staff at risk of harm.

“I am pleased that the sentence passed reflects the seriousness of the offence.”
