A former Italian restaurant in Oxfordshire could be turned into a house under new plans.

The plans submitted by a Mr Kirkman would see the now shut Rigoletto, off Bicester Road, Middleton Stoney become a house.

An application form submitted with the plans said: "The building's existing layout will remain, with existing rooms repurposed for residential use.

“The current restaurant has plenty of windows to provide natural light, this will remain after conversion as no windows are planned to be removed.

"Vehicle movements on and off of the site onto the highway will significantly reduce.

“The current road access is more than sufficient for the property's new use.

“The current building is the only commercial premises on the site, meaning there will be no additional noise for the new house."

Floor plans submitted along with the application reveal the ground floor would have an office and a gym.

The plans also show there would be three bedrooms on the first floor of the building.

Last June, the Hummingbird Centre, a cancer support and therapy hub on the outskirts of Bicester, identified the former restaurant as the best option for its new site after outgrowing its previous premise.

The charity had to raise £700,000 to secure the property before it went to sealed bids.

A consultation on the planning application to turn the old restaurant into a house is now ongoing with Cherwell District Council set to make a decision in the coming weeks.
