Motorists are faced with the prospect of traffic carnage at a key city roundabout due to traffic lights being down.

The A34 Botley Interchange had no functioning lights on Thursday afternoon.

An eyewitness said queues were starting to form at the faulty lights from Botley Road around 3pm - although the lights on Botley Road itself appeared to be working as normal.

This coincided with a major power cut impacting 14 postcode areas across Oxford on Thursday - including in the Botley Road and Osney Mead area.

It is not believed the power cut is connected to the traffic lights being down however.

There were also reports of faulty temporary traffic lights causing "lenghty delays" on the A420 eastbound near the village of Hinton Waldrist on Thursday morning.

An engineer was called to repair the lights.
