Shoppers popping into an Oxford store for a pint of milk at the weekend were serenaded through the door.
More than 50 people gathered outside the Co-op in Rose Hill on Saturday afternoon, to see rising singer-songwriter Tom Baxter.
The 30-minute performance by Tom and partner Che Albrighton attracted fans, as well as curious passers-by.
The event followed a joint Oxford Mail and Cornbury Music Festival competition in which more than 90 shops battled it out to see who could boost their newspaper sales the most over a four-week period.
The Rose Hill shop was the winner, thanks to a 14 per cent increase.
George Gee, 48, of Rose Hill, said: "It's been a long time since I've been to a live music event. The last time was when I saw Pink Floyd at Wembley in 1986."
Store manager Andy Joiner said: "I think this has been good for the community and will hopefully bring them together."
The intimate gig was arranged by Cornbury Festival director Hugh Phillimore, who said: "It was all very jolly and brightened up a Saturday afternoon."
A stage was set up at the side of the store as there was not enough space inside. Children, adults and pensioners gathered in the sunshine to hear the London-based musician's performance.
Tom, 35, of North London, said: "I was asked to come along to Oxford and perform some songs. It has been great."
The Cornbury Music Festival takes place near Charlbury on Saturday, July 5, and Sunday, July 6.
Performers on Saturday will include Paul Simon, Beverley Knight and The Bangles, while Crowded House, KT Tunstall, 10cc and Tom Baxter will perform on Sunday.
