DOZENS of people gathered around Martyrs' Memorial in St Giles, Oxford, to remember the victims of the Tiananmen Square massacre in China.
It was the 19th anniversary of the tragedy, in which hundreds of people were killed.
Members of the city's Amnesty International groups laid roses, pictured, and memorabilia recalling the event.
Activities started next door at St Mary Magdalen Church, where information about Amnesty's work and Tiananmen Square was given out before a talk about the massacre. The group then held a silent vigil.
The focus of the event was not anti-China, but remembering the tragedy.
Simon Barnard, of Oxford City Amnesty Group, said: "It was very respectful and we were all well aware we were mourning.
"There were a few people who came who were Chinese so it was a sign of respect."
Red Cross supporters collected at the event for victims of the recent earthquake in the Sichuan province of China.
