I am pleased to see that councillor Deborah Glass Woodin (Oxford Mail, June 4) agrees that free park-and-rides encourage drivers to use them, something that is evident by the spaces available at the city council-run Pear Tree where charges apply.
The free-of-charge Water Eaton park-and-ride is near capacity.
This reduces the number of cars entering Oxford, reducing congestion.
What she failed to mention is that Oxfordshire County Council already provides more than £3m in bus subsidies each year to keep vital services running for the benefit of residents of Oxfordshire.
IAN HUDSPETH (Councillor) Cabinet Member for Transport Oxfordshire County Council
