People power won the day after plans to build a controversial budget hotel between Wantage and Grove were turned down.
A private developer applied to the Vale of White Horse District Council to build offices and a 15-bedroom budget hotel at The Limes, Station Road.
However, 150 people signed a petition against the development.
Don Summers, who lives in Hawthorn Crescent, Grove, said: "I know that a lot of people were against it and it was a very unpopular plan."
The plan was refused because it was considered out-of-keeping with the area and would have had a big impact on traffic.
Terry Gashe, of DPDS Consultancy Group, which represents the developer, said: "We would be interested in speaking to local residents about their concerns."
