Fire crews rushed to the scene after being called out to a person who had fallen in the almost-overflowing river, only to find it was a false alarm.
At 2pm today (Monday, January 16), Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue crews from Rewley Road and Kidlington were mobilised to assist colleagues in Thames Valley Police with what had been reported to be a person in the water near Osney bridge, who needing rescuing.

However, upon arrival, the crews discovered there was no one requiring rescue and this had been a false alarm.
The Environment Agency announced on January 8 that 25 areas across Oxfordshire are likely to be affected by flooding.
These include include River Thames in Oxford, River Evenlode from Moreton-in-Marsh to Cassington, River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock, River Cherwell from Lower Heyford to Oxford, River Windrush from Bourton to Newbridge, River Thames from Buscot Wick to Kings Lock, River Thame and Chalgrove Brook.
