A traditional country pub famed for its collection of boots donated by stars from the Bee Gees to Gary Lineker is now under offer.

The Boot Inn just off the A40 at Barnard Gate has been on the market since 2021.

The pub was previously named the Britannia and became known as The Boot Inn in 1991, when it was taken over by well-known publican, George Daily.

Mr Daily created its extensive collection of boots and shoes worn by sports legends, pop stars and politicians by offering celebrities a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne in exchange for their footwear.

Among the collection, which adorns the walls of the main bar area, guests can find the footwear of the Bee Gees, Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran, Sir Stanley Matthews, George Best, David Gower, Gary Lineker, Sir Roger Banister and Sebastian Lord Coe.

The Boot was acquired by Adelaide-born chef Craig Foster in 2003.

The traditional two-storey pub is constructed from Cotswold stone with exposed wooden beams and roaring log fires in winter.

It has space for up to 90 regulars in the main bar area and the front of the building features a large terrace area with additional space for up to 50 covers.

Agents described it as "a fantastic opportunity for a new and enthusiastic operator to reopen the pub and build on the long and interesting history of the site".

They added: "There is scope to develop the food offering, making it the go to destination pub/restaurant in the area with business coming from Oxford and several surrounding affluent villages."

Oxford Mail:

The pub was on the market with a guide price of £550,000 plus VAT for the freehold interest.

It went on the market in 2021 when it was listed for £625,000.

It was one of at least a dozen pubs that hoisted the for sale sign in Oxfordshire following a difficult year of repeated closures and the hospitality restrictions of Covid.

Tim Widdows, Licensed Business Agent at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale, said:“The Boot sits in a great location just north of Oxford and in the past has been a thriving pub known for its great food.

"This is a great opportunity for a new operator to bring it back to its former glory.”

However, he would not reveal the identity of the new landlords.

"The buyer has asked for me not to disclose any information at this stage," he said.
