A decision is due to be made on whether a controversial new development in Bicester will go ahead.

Cherwell District Council is set to confirm today (January 16) whether the 530-home development – which is set to be built in the Bicester ecotown Elmsbrook - will be approved.

The proposals have received some backlash from existing householders in the town, arguing that the new development doesn’t align with the ethos of the ecotown.

A spokesman for the Bicester Residents Group for a Zero Carbon Ecotown said: “Police Bicester 1 requires developments within the northwest Bicester ecotown to be zero carbon.

“This application is within the boundaries of the ecotown, but the applicant does not wish to comply with the zero-carbon requirement and has presented a financial viability assessment to support their decision.”
