WHO was your community hero in 2022?

From fundraisers to football managers, several people have stood out in Oxfordshire as ‘community heroes’.

The Oxford Mail asked readers who they knew who deserved a shout-out and who they felt had made a difference last year.

Here were some of the 2022’s community heroes in Oxfordshire:

  • Rupert Broadhurst – a five-year-old boy nominated by Kim Moore for making hampers for a food bank.
  • Steve Bott – nominated by Mat Berry for his contribution to grassroots football, especially the Witney Vikings. He was recognised by the FA this year, winning the ‘Spirit of Grassroots Football’ award.
  • Cynthia Bulpitt and Mike Hissey- nominated by Chloe Gunning, Ashlee Cox and Sarah Johnson for helping to gather goods for people such as Ukrainian refugees
  • Sue Holden – nominated by the Barton Community for her 50 years of services to the Oxfordshire suburb
  • Hasnath Miah – owner of Didcot takeaway Indian Dream who sadly passed away last month after suffering a stroke. He was nominated for giving out free food to the homeless and NHS Oxford Mail: Hasnath Miah Hasnath Miah (Image: Ed Nix)
  • Clive Calver – a retired butcher nominated by Julie Calver for serving Kennington village  by opening the village hall, playing in the brass band and performing the Last Post every year
  • Rikki Thereval and the Botley Bikers – nominated by Jennie Botham for giving out food and clothes to the homeless
  • The Oxfordshire Foster Care Association (OFCA) – nominated by Leigh Kelly for providing foster children with everything they need

  • Dr Saman Ford – a Botley community ambassador nominated by Aneta Dziok for launching Botley Community Kitchen
  • Kerrie Morse and Katie Matthews – nominated by Vickie Ward for supporting many clubs and organisations
