POLICE today appealed for witnesses after a man was assaulted in the centre of Banbury.

At about 2.15am on Saturday, two men leaving the Sound Exchange nightclub on High Street got into an alteration outside with two other men. One of them was head-butted by one of the men and then punched in the face by the other leaving him with a suspected fractured cheekbone.

He was taken to the Horton for treatment and released the same day.

The man who punched the victim is wanted for GBH. He is white, in his mid-twenties, about 5ft 10in tall, muscular build and has dark, spiky hair.

The other man, who is wanted for ABH for head-butting the victim, is also white and in his mid-twenties, and has dark hair. He was dressed in a black shirt and black jeans.

They both left the scene in the direction of Horsefair where they got separate taxis.

PC Robert Gates, of Banbury police station, said: "The man who was attacked is Polish and we are investigating whether this was a racially motivated assault. We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or was in the High Street area at around 2am. Also, did you see these men at the taxi rank in Horsefair? If so, please get in touch."
