Emergency services attended a car fire on a junction of the M40 yesterday (December 30).
Fire crews from Slade Park Fire Station and Thame Fire Station were called to Junction 8A the Wheatley interchange near Oxford Services at around 4pm.
They found a well-developed vehicle fire.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to quickly extinguish the blaze.
Crews from South Central Ambulance Service had closed the road and police and Highways England traffic officers helped to reopen it.
Incident commander, Watch Manger, Dan Shepherd said: “Thankfully the driver of the vehicle noticed the early signs of a developing fire and was able to stop in a safe place.”
He added: “When becoming stranded on a busy carriageway it is important to get yourself to a place of safety, away from the fire and smoke, preferably behind a safety barrier.
"Further accidents can occur due to stranded vehicles blocking lanes or the reduced visibility.”
