A festive tree-cycle scheme which aims to take away some of the stress this Christmas has branched out into even more locations.

Due to the success of its Christmas Tree Cycle scheme last year, Katharine House, in Banbury, has extended its offering to dispose of real Christmas trees, in return for a donation to the hospice. 

In this environmentally friendly initiative, this year sponsored by The Sound Reserve, Katharine House will arrange for the trees to be collected from a range of postcodes on January 6 and 7, before Acreman’s Arboriculture Ltd in Wigginton chips the trees for free of charge.

As part of its trial last year, the hospice only picked up trees from a limited number of households in OX7 and OX15. But this year, the scheme will operate in the following postcodes:

OX7 4 and 5, OX15 0, 4 and 5, OX16 9 and OX17 3.

People wanting to get their tree recycled by Katharine House, which is run in partnership with national charity Just Helping, will need to sign up on the hospice’s website before 10am Tuesday January 3. 

In a separate scheme, local Christmas tree sellers will be donating a portion of their tree sales to Katharine House.

Warwickshire Christmas Tree Farm on Kestrel Ridge, Shenington and Saltway Farm Shop on Broughton Road have agreed to donate 10 per cent of the sale of their trees when buyers reference Katharine House.

Katharine House Events and Challenges Officer Carley Lambourne said: “Christmas is a time of year for family and friends and, of course, the all-important Christmas tree.

“We all love a real tree until the time comes to dispose of it after Christmas - and this is where we can step in.”
