Discount chain Aldi is ready to open a new supermarket in Abingdon tomorrow.

The new store is opening in Wootton Road at 8am and will be run by store manager Lina, along with a team of 40 colleagues.

To celebrate the new partnership between Aldi and ParalympicsGB, Lina and her team will be joined by ParalympicsGB bronze medallist Jordanne Whiley, who will be cutting the all-important ribbon on the opening morning.

Ms Whiley will also give away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super 6 range to the first 30 customers in the queue.

Oxford Mail:

The new store will offer fresh, British meat products with weekly offers, Aldi’s award-winning ‘Specially Selected’ range, exclusive Beers, Wines and Spirits, and a ‘Food to Go’ section at the front of the store.

Aldi’s Specialbuys will also be available in the middle aisle every Thursday and Sunday, offering good value on a wide range of products, from electrical items to garden tools.

The partnership with ParalympicsGB builds on Aldi’s existing partnership with Team GB, where they have supported Great Britain’s Olympic team and athletes since 2015.

Oxford Mail:

Aldi will be fuelling ParalympicGB athletes to success by providing all athletes with monthly food vouchers.

Store manager Lina said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Abingdon.

"It’s set to be a special day, and having Paralympic hero Jordanne Whiley join us will make it a morning to remember.”

Wheelchair tennis star Ms Whiley said: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of ParalympicsGB.”

The new store is also calling on local charities and food banks in Abingdon to register with Neighbourly, a community engagement platform that links businesses to charitable organisations in the local community.

Oxford Mail:

Local charities that register will be able to collect surplus food and perishable products, such as fruit, vegetables and baked goods, seven days a week. Any charities in the area that would like to link up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.

The new store will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Drivers have seen the store gradually take shape throughout the year, opposite the new Kings Gate estate.
