Friends and neighbours of a teenage boy who died during flash floods yesterday have spoken of their shock.
Tributes have been made to Max Weeden, 17, also known as Max Sullivan-Webb, of Judds Close, in Witney, died in flooding at Eastfield Road.
Two bouquets of flowers mark the spot where the teenage Sainsbury's shop worker was rescued by firefighters, but later died.
Neighbours of the boy's step-father, Tim, and mother Katy, said they were in a state of shock.
A father of five, who did not want to be named, said: "Everyone I have met is just in shock. No-one ever thought anything like that could happen.
"It was a freak accident and that must be hard for a parent to take. We are all grief-stricken and our hearts go out to all the family."
A 34-year-old neighbour said: "We all know Max has gone and we are all stunned.
"There was a big calm in the street this morning. You could sense it like people were paying their respects. The street has been so quiet.
"They are lovely people. Max was a great lad. I only saw him the other day on his pushbike and he nodded at me. He was a very polite lad."
A mother of one said: "As a mother I am absolutely devastated. I can't believe how this could have happened."
